I have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University.
After spending twelve years in the engineering field, I turned my lifelong hobby of woodworking and my love of woodcarving into a full time career of signmaking. During the past 30 years of doing this full time I estimate that I have designed and produced over 4,000 signs. My concentration in the last 10 years has been in designing and creating antique and period-type signs for many national and international restaurant chains. These signs can be found nationwide and in several foreign countries including Mexico, Europe and the Far East.
In 1999, I discovered the medium of watercolor and have been hooked ever since.
Although primarily self-taught, I began a more structured approach to watercolor with noted artist Jack Jones of Danvers, MA. During that time I discovered the passionate watercolor paintings of international watercolor artist, Alvaro Castagnet. I have been lucky to have attended five of his extensive workshops and developed a style which has unleashed my passion for watercolor. I can truly say that Alvaro has become a significant friend and mentor.
I am a member of the Malden Sketch Group, the Reading Art Association, and an artist member of both the NorthShore Arts Association and the Rockport Art Association. Currently I am the president of the Reading Art Association and the Melrose Arts and Cultural Association.
My painting style has developed into a very impressionistic representation of coastal landcapes and, in particular, cityscapes. My real passion lies in the depiction of urban street scenes and many of my paintings represent scenes from my European travels.
I love teaching watercolor painting in both my home studio and on location. I also enjoy demonstrating my painting to art groups and conducting plein air workshops. Within the last year i have explored the medium of oil and have fallen in love with this as well. I find that working consistently in both mediums has actually improved my artwork.
I exhibit my work on a regular basis throuout the North Shore and have won several awards for my watercolors. My paintings currently hang in private collections in the United States, Great Britain and Germany. My work can be seen at the Hourglass Gift Gallery in Melrose, MA, the Board of Directors Room at the Melrose Cooperative Bank, and my home studio.
